Dialogue Society has a long standing tradition of organising community based events that bring people together, fostering understanding and appreciation. We believe that it is through such events that a sense of friendship and genuine empathy arise. Our community events seek to mobilise first and second generation British Muslim communities to facilitate their exposure to, exchange with, and understanding of, different cultures and faiths while simultaneously encouraging the same pattern of behaviour among the host and other communities in the United Kingdom. The end objective of community based dialogue is to encourage integrated and cohesive communities.
An important point made when organising such interfaith, intercultural and intercommunity events is to emphasise the fact that such interaction and integration is necessitated by Islam; that as Muslims we engage in dialogue because of, not in spite of, Islam. Such an outlook and understanding of religion and faith is crucial since it motivates positive engagement but also undermines extremist and rejectionist mentality and behaviour as a by-product. |
