Effective Engagement with Muslim Communities Seminar

The event was attented by the Lord Mayor of Hull; some Humberside Police Officers; Police Community Support Officers who work in Neighbourhood Policing team areas with large Muslim Communities; a number of staff members from Hull City Council; as well as some Community participation officers, Anti social Behaviour officers, and neighbourhood housing officers who work in the same wards as the police staff and engage with local communities on a daily basis.

The presentation given by Ozcan Keles (of the Dialogue Society in London) who gave some Insight in to the Muslim Culture and Religion, including some practical advice around how to engage with Muslim members of our community. The advice about engagement provided tips on how to engage positively with individuals, giving due consideration to cultural differences and showing awareness that our actions may be misinterpreted. This advice also provided guidance around methods to consider for long-term effective engagement with our Muslim Communities.
