The Dialogue Society organises periodic delegations abroad with a view to enhancing intercultural interaction and inter-institutional partnership. Participants are enabled to explore in a different culture, social and political issues with relevance to their experience in the UK. Thus, as well as fostering warm relationships between people of different cultures and nationalities, the trips provoke reflection and dialogue on shared goals, common problems and the relative merits of diverse approaches and solutions. To date, intercultural trips have been organised for groups of academics, politicians, local councillors, journalists, students and community representatives. Trips are tailored to the interests of the participants, with visits arranged to relevant public and private institutions and to civil society organisations. Groups also have ample opportunity to see the sights, sample local hospitality and reflect together upon their experiences. The Dialogue Society is keen to expand its remit in this area of activity. Plans are being made for trips to other regions and countries including Central Asia, Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Northern Iraq. Further the Dialogue Society is looking to organise intercultural London trips to explore the history, culture and diverse communities of the UK capital. These trips, intended to encourage reflection upon and appreciation of the cultural diversity of London, will target young people, community groups and delegates from abroad. |
