On Monday 25 January, Dialogue Society North, in association with the Institute for Spirituality, Religion and Public Life hosted Harbans Singh Sagoo, who gave a seminar titled ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds: a Sikh perspective’, as part of the ‘History of Dialogue and Community Cohesion in Leeds’ seminar series, which have been running since its inauguration with Rev Canon Charles Dobbin’s seminar as the first session of the series. In this seminar, as the representative of the Sikh community in Leeds, our guest Harbans Singh Sagoo talked about the Sikh community and his personal experiences regarding community dialogue and cohesion and how to achieve it. He talked specifically about the institution of ‘Langar’ at the Gurudwara and how it helps community cohesion in offering free food to anyone regardless of religion or ethnicity. A question and answers session followed this, in which the participants asked questions ranging from how to achieve community cohesion to dialogue between different communities and ethical conduct.
