  • Rev Canon Dr. John Hall (Director of St Philip’s Centre)

Abstract

This discussion is the second in a series of six discussions exploring how to make intercultural dialogue (a term intended to imply all shades of dialogue, including interfaith dialogue) more effective. Panellists engaged professionally with intercultural and interfaith dialogue will focus on the quality of the relationships initiated through this dialogue. How can dialogue go beyond superficial interactions to promote deeper understanding and genuine relationship?

Questions to be considered:

  • What kinds of relationships are initiated through dialogue projects?
  • Do they go beyond the superficial level?
  • Do they involve genuine understanding of the other, and what kind?
  • Do they continue outside the context of the project or meeting?
  • What kinds of relationships do we want to be initiating?
  • In the experience of panellists and guests, which dialogue techniques, projects and activities
  • promote deeper understanding and genuine relationships?
