March 2010, Issue 4

Dear Friend,

Happy (Belated) Easter to you all.

Last month, we were honoured to host two distinguished guests at the Dialogue Society for two separate roundtable discussions. The first was with HE Dame Anne Fyfe Pringle, DCMG the British Ambassador to Russia and the second with Rt Hon Michael Howard MP, Leader of the Conservative Party between 2003-2005.

HE Dame Pringle spoke about the current economic climate within Russia, its relations with neighbouring countries and future prospects of growth and development, provoking lively and stimulating debate. Since all our roundtables are restricted to a maximum of twenty distinguished guests, these forums provide an excellent opportunity for all participants to rigorously and candidly question, critique and discuss those issues that really matter in a way that makes the dialogue meaningful and worthwhile.

Michael Howard's roundtable was entitled 'Education and Integration'. Mr Howard began his speech by addressing education and integration as two separate entities and went on to explore how they relate and influence one another. Participants from the political, academic and professional sectors discussed a whole range of issues relating to the broad topic of education and integration, exchanging notes, recent research findings and different practices. Both Michael Howard and HE Anne Pringle paid tribute to the work of the Dialogue Society.

As for April, we already have four events planned which you can see on the right hand column of this newsletter. In addition to these public and private events, the Dialogue Society continues to work on a range of long term projects which we hope to share with you in the coming months.

I'd like to thank all those who suggested topics and speakers for events at the Dialogue Society last month. Please continue to keep the ideas and suggestions coming in.

Best wishes
Ozcan Keles
Executive Director
