Dialogue Society Celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a Dinner & Awards Ceremony
The Dialogue Society celebrated its 10th anniversary with a Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the Renaissance Chancery Court on 17th November 2009.
The event was attended by 300 guests: 35 Parliamentarians including Ministers and frontbench members as well as senior civil servants, opinion-makers, pre-eminent academics, editors, Ambassadors to the UK, community representatives, and many other public figures.
The event featured keynote speeches by Mr Shahid Malik, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for DCLG; Mr Bill Rammell, Minister of State for the Armed Forces; Dr Julian Lewis, Shadow Defence Minister and Mr Chris Huhne, Shadow Home Affairs Secretary. All four speakers united in their praise for the consistent and utterly important work of the Dialogue Society.
The Anniversary dinner highlighted the work and achievements of the Dialogue Society over the past ten years with Awards of Appreciation being presented to those who have supported the Society in its work.

Roundtable with Paul Goodman MP on 'Islam & Moderation'
30/10/09 - Dialogue Society was proud to host Paul Goodman MP, Shadow Minister for DCLG, at a roundtable discussion which saw an excellent turnout of guests from the political, academic and media sector. Paul's insightful and thought-provoking speech was followed by lively discussion.

Roundtable with the Danish Ambassador to the UK
28/10/09 - Dialogue Society was proud to host His Excellency Birger Riis-Jørgensen, the Danish Ambassador to the UK for a roundtable discussion entitled 'Integration and Faith: Denmark's Experience'. The event was attended by leading politicians, Ambassadors and pre-eminent academics.

Successful book launch at the Dialogue Society: "Muslims of Europe: The 'Other' Europeans" by Dr H.A. Hellyer
13/10/09 - Dialogue Society saw a full house of guests attend the book launch of the latest publication by Dr H.A Hellyer, a well renowned expert on Muslims in Europe. The event featured a book review and appraisal by Prof Steven Greer, an authority on human rights law from Bristol University. Dr Hellyer responded to Prof Greer's comments while also outlining the main arguments of his book. The main talks were followed by a lively Q&A session which saw many questions/comments put to the author by civil servants, academics, community representatives and the media. The event concluded with a drinks reception.

Lecture at LSE by Dialogue Society Director on the Gulen Movement

21/11/09 - Ozcan Keles, Dialogue Society Executive Director, delivered a lecture at the London School of Economics & titled 'Achieving Peace Through Education and Dialogue: The Gulen Movement' as part of a day-long conference organised by INFORM. The Conference focused on new movements originating from the Islamic tradition. The event was very well attended and took place at the Hong Kong Theatre in Clement House. Co-Director Speaks at Community Events

On 19th November, Ilknur Kahraman gave a speech entitled "Mechanisms and Interventions for Community Cohesion" to the Community, Regeneration and Equalities teams in Islington as well as leading faith representatives within the Borough.
