Thu, 15 Mar 2012 17:00 in Discussion Forums

Where: Wesley Memorial Church Seminar Hall, New Inn Hall Street, OX1 2DH
Date: 15 March 2012
Time: 17:00-18:30
With: Dr Andrew Wingate

Abstract

Dialogue can become like an abstract science, confined to so called experts who have the right religious, philosophical and theological language. If this is the case, it becomes a minority pursuit, confined to so called ‘experts’ usually clergy or academics. As such, it hardly touches the ‘real’ world. The four Principles of Dialogue of the British Council of Churches avoids this mistake. These principles will be examined, drawing on the speaker’s 30 years’ experience in inter faith dialogue. He will look at obstacles to dialogue, major and minor, and consider dialogue in depth, as well as dialogue of life, dialogue of theology, and dialogue for nation building.
