Media and Religion: Understanding the Rules of Engagement

Thursday, 12 February 2009 18:45 | Seminars & Roundtables

Where: Dialogue Society, London
by John Carter

Abstract

How is faith viewed by the media today? Can coverage of faith issues ever be positive? What are the tools required by religious leaders wishing to engage with the media? Why bother with the media? The seminar introduces key issues and offers some tools and suggestions. We hope to run practical workshops on the subject following this introduction at a later date.

Biography

The seminar is led by Revd John Carter MA, a former BBC journalist who is now a church press officer and broadcaster. John has lectured on issues of faith and media at Durham University, St John's College Nottingham, Leeds Trinity and Mirfield Colleges. In May 2008 he joined with the Dialogue Society to organise a visit to Turkey by a group of journalists (BBC, Guardian, Channel 4).
