Abstract

The Dialogue Society is pleased to host West Midlands PCC Bob Jones and Deputy PCC Yvonne Mosquito, at its premises on the 11th of June at 11am. The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen connections between the police and local people local people such as Birmingham residents, students and businesses operating in the city. The meeting will enable participants to air any concerns or views they have about local, or indeed national, policing that affects them. Please come along and give us your views on the policing issues that concern you and your community. The police are keen to listen and learn and respond to questions and concerns you have to help solve problems that affect you.

Biography of Bob Jones

He was born and bred in Wolverhampton. Bob served as a Labour Councillor from 1980 to 2013 for Blakenhall in Wolverhampton. He was a Cabinet member for Leisure and Community Safety at Wolverhampton City Council and has served on various scrutiny boards. He has held responsibilities as Chair of Education, Finance, and Youth Committees plus many others as Wolverhampton City Councillor, including chairing Wolverhampton Community Safety Partnership.

He was previously a member of West Midlands Police Authority from 1986 to 2012, and chaired the Authority from 1995-2000. Bob served as a member of the Association of Police Authorities (APA) where he was Deputy Chairman from 2004-2005 and Chairman from 2005-2009. He was also a member of the National Policing Board, National Criminal Justice Board and Senior Appointment Panel. He has also been a member of the service authorities for the National Crime Squad (NCS) and National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS), and chaired the disciplinary committee for both authorities. He is currently a member of the College of Policing board and Chair of the Employer Side of the Police Staff Council.

Bob has served as a non-executive director of the Black Country Cluster PCT Boards and has chaired various other local community organisations and trusts.

In 2010 Bob was awarded the CBE for "services to policing".

Biography of Yvonne Mosquito

Yvonne Mosquito was born in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. She was elected as a councillor to Birmingham City Council in 1996 and has served as Executive Member of the Birmingham City Council Cabinet, Chair of the Labour Group and Deputy Chief Whip

Yvonne has chaired several committees including: Birmingham City Council's People & Organisation Committee, the West Midlands Immigration Strategic Board, the Social Cultural & Health Board and the Birmingham Housing Benefit Review Board.

Yvonne was formerly Vice Chair of West Midlands Police Authority, where she served on several committees, including as Chair of the Personnel Committee and Vice Chair of the Equalities Committee. Yvonne also represented West Midlands Police Authority at the national Association of Police Authorities

Her other previous experience includes serving as Chief Executive to ACTIVE, Chief Executive Action Trust and Legacy Publications Producer and Publisher of educational material. She has served as: Crisis Intervention Manager for Community Advocacy Support & Advice Organisation; Common Purpose Graduate, Director Birmingham Education and Training Academy and Chair of the Service Providers Network, Chair of the Council of Black Led Churches (112 Churches), advisor on the Interfaith Religious Board, Chair of the Birmingham Women's Enterprise Development Agency and co-coordinator of two Supplementary School projects Additional experience has included serving as: Commissioner of the Legal Services Commission and representative for Initiatives of Change which is a world-wide organisation promoting respect and peace.
