Upcoming Elections and Its Local Effects: Labour Perspective

Abstract

In May 2010, British citizens will cast a nationwide vote to elect new Members of the Parliament (MP’s). Considering some of the challenges that the British government has recently faced due to the global credit crunch, upcoming elections will be influential to understand UK citizens' attitudes towards the policies of current government as well as the new approaches developed and presented by parties opponent.

In this seminar, Dr Ed Turner will confer on the policies of Labour Party and answer the questions of attendees who are mostly first-time voters.

Biography of Dr Ed Turner

Dr Ed Turner took his doctorate at the Institute for German Studies, University of Birmingham, having previously completed a Masters in European Politics and Society at Nuffield College in Oxford, and a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at St. John’s College, Oxford. Dr. Ed Turner is particularly interested in federalism, decentralisation and public policy. He wrote his doctorate about the impact of political parties on public policy at the sub-national level in Germany, and retains a keen interest in all aspects of modern German politics. He has also worked on comparative public policy, and has a subsidiary research interest in housing and spatial planning.

In his spare time, Dr Ed Turner serves on the South East Regional Housing and Regeneration Board, and also on the Local Government Association's Environment Board.
