Building Community Trust – Christmas 2025 Impact Report

Welcome to the Dialogue Society’s Christmas Community Dinners 2025 Impact Report celebrating how shared meals and meaningful conversations helped build trust across the UK.

In a time when many communities feel the strain of division, isolation, and mistrust, we chose something simple and powerful: connection. This year’s theme, Building Community Trust, focused on turning everyday encounters into lasting relationships—helping strangers become neighbours, one table at a time.

Building Community Trust - Christmas 2025 Impact Report

Our theme evolved from 2024’s “Voices in Unity,” where we celebrated harmony, to a deeper focus in 2025: creating the lasting bonds that sustain that harmony—and ultimately, building community trust across the UK.

“Trust is the quiet force that holds us together… Trust is not just something we build—it is something we live.”

Paul Griffiths, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester

In 2025, we hosted 34 dinners across 24 towns and cities, connecting 2,173 people. We welcomed 90 speakers and worked alongside 39 partner organisations. This marks clear growth from 2024, an increase of 17% in dinners, 14% in attendees, 96% in speakers, and 50% in partners. This sharp rise in speakers and partners also signals deeper civic support: more local leaders, institutions, and community organisations stepping forward to stand behind trust-building work in their areas.

At every dinner, we practised three habits that make trust real: Showing Up, Listening Well, and Following Through—turning conversations into continued relationships and community action. From Newcastle to Manchester, Liverpool, Bolton, Leicester, North and South London, Birmingham and beyond, the tables were alive with dialogue, music, games, and shared stories—bringing together people of all faiths and none, young people and families, community organisations, civic leaders, and local services. In Newcastle and Sheffield, Youth Platforms ran events led by young people. At Queen Mary University and City St George’s University, Dialogue Society Clubs hosted student-led dinners strengthening campus-community connections.

None of this happens alone. Our partners helped open doors, strengthen trust locally, and make each dinner feel rooted in its community. The most powerful impact was human: new friendships formed, barriers softened, and many guests left not only feeling welcomed—but inspired to volunteer, stay involved, and keep the conversation going.
