Abstract

Dialogue Society is pleased to host Mayor Of Brighton at its premises on the 6th of February at 11am. The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen connections between the local government and local people such as Brighton&Hove residents, students and businesses operating in the city. The meeting will enable participants to air any concerns or views they have about local, or indeed national, policies which affects them. Please come along and give us your views on the local issues that concern you and your community. The Mayor is keen to listen and learn and respond to questions and concerns you have to help solve problems that affect you.

Biography of Denise Cobb

Denise Cobb was born in Brighton. Having lived in both London and the US she now resides in the city keeping tabs on her two sons, four grandsons and grand-daughter. A self-employed massage, sport massage, beauty therapist and part time teacher of swimming and aquatic exercise, Denise is also a qualified Badminton and Gym Instructor. She has worked in local hospitals as a Phlebotomist and Theatre Sterile Services Supervisor. First elected in 1999 to represent the Westbourne Ward she was successively re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011. Denise has served on many committees and was Deputy Leader of the Council May 2008 – May 2009 and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group May 2011 – May 2013. Denise has worked with young people and the long term unemployed, training and supporting them to find voluntary and paid work. Coaching in sports and leisure activities and working with young adults with profound multiple learning difficulties and severe physical disabilities provided eye-opening insight. In a voluntary capacity Denise has been an Instructor for the American Red Cross, helped raise funds for children’s sport, been a life guard on youth group trips and taught fun exercise sessions for all ages. In the few moments between work, family and council obligations Denise enjoys dance, swimming, cooking and travel.
