Community Consultancy

The Dialogue Society’s community work includes the support of several community centres around London seeking to branch out and bring people together across different ethnic, cultural and religious boundaries. Dialogue Society staff, volunteers and MA students on the Dialogue Studies course which the organisation co-delivers with Keele University all assist with this work.

The community centres supported are: Lighthouse Educational Society Community Centres in Croydon, Welling and Peckham; Mevlana Rumi Mosque and Community Centre (Edmonton); Amity Community Centre (Ilford).

The initiatives undertaken by community centres with the support of the dialogue society include:

Community Outreach

Local dialogue starts with going out and meeting people face to face.

Noah’s Pudding projects

Sharing this simple, delicious Anatolian tradition with neighbours, community groups and local stakeholders is a great way of building new connections and friendships at the local level.

Community breakfasts

Weekly breakfasts, sometimes featuring a talk on a topical issue, or a particular discussion topic, provide a regular, relaxed context for people to meet and get to know one another.

Connecting Communities Circles

These informal discussion events bring together the host community centre and guests from a different local ethnic/cultural group. Guests are invited to talk about their community and its experiences of life in the UK, building understanding and opening the way for collaboration.

Family Pairing

This initiative pairs families from different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds who meet and get to know one another over dinner, usually hosting one another at home.
