Community Conference - Essentials of Peace: Compassion of the Prophets

The Dialogue Society organised its first ‘Essentials of Peace’ community conference sub-titled, ‘Compassion of the Prophets'. The conference looked at compassion in the disposition, practice and teachings of the three Abrahamic Prophets.

The conference consisted of three speeches presented by Ms Cheryl Pearson, Advisor, Institute of Interfaith Dialogue, Houston, U.S; Dr Ian G. Williams, Senior Lecturer & Subject Leader, University of Central England and Dr Asaf Hussain, Author & Academic, University of Leicester; a video presentation, the classical reading of the Qur'an and Ezan, a theatrical performance by children and an exhibition of the famous Ottoman art of Ebru, that is traditional Turkish Marbling and a demonstration of how it is done.

Drinks and snacks were made available during the break and traditional rose shaped desserts were served at the end of the programme. Exclusive Gift Packs, prepared solely for this event together with a single red rose, were presented to ticket-holders as they left the conference.

Description

An annual event organised to commemorate Prophethood and the shared values and characteristics of 'Abrahamic Prophets'. While 'Essentials of Peace' is the primary heading of the Conference, the sub-heading and theme for each year changes.

Objective

To seek solutions in the values and characteristics of the Abrahamic Prophets. To come together on common terms, values and characteristics among the three major religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism).
