Abstract

The underrepresentation of women and the gender pay gap in academia are prominent issues in the UK. Women, compared to male peers, earn less, occupy fewer top tier positions, and receive fewer grants and scholarships. Women occupy very few senior positions in academic positions in the UK, while female academics earn 12% less than their male counterparts. Women also face a particular challenge especially in male-dominated fields in academia.

This panel will explore these challenges and discriminatory practices women academics face in academia.
