The Dialogue Society’s 2nd Annual South Tyneside Community Dialogue Iftar Dinner, held under the theme “Voices in Unity,” brought together a diverse and engaged audience for an evening of dialogue, reflection, and community celebration. Supported by South Tyneside Council and North East Diversity Education and Solidarity (NEDES), the event was a resounding success, showcasing the power of inter-community engagement in fostering understanding and unity.
Over the course of the evening, attendees participated in a rich programme of activities, including inspiring speeches from distinguished guests such as Mayor Fay Cunningham, Talha Özleblebici (Chair of NEDES), Aelfwynn Sampson Chief Superintendent and Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Susan Wear, video presentations highlighting the Dialogue Society’s work, live music, artistic performances, quizzes, and interactive reflections. A special moment was marked by the Adhan, signalling the breaking of the fast, followed by a shared traditional meal prepared by dedicated volunteers.
The event successfully created a platform for dialogue, learning, and intercultural exchange, allowing guests to connect across different backgrounds and celebrate the spirit of Ramadan. Activities such as ice-breaker discussions, live art demonstrations, and interactive quizzes encouraged active participation, while the thoughtful speeches and reflections emphasized mutual respect, understanding, and community cohesion.
Thanks to the commitment of our volunteers, partners, and supporters, the 2nd South Tyneside Iftar Dinner strengthened local ties, promoted inclusivity, and celebrated the diversity and vibrancy of the South Tyneside community. Events like this highlight the vital role of dialogue in building bridges and creating a more harmonious society, leaving attendees inspired and connected.
