The 3rd Annual Gateshead Dialogue Iftar and Diversity Dinner was held at the historic St Mary’s Heritage Centre, welcoming over 150 attendees for an evening rooted in the values of peace, unity, and mutual understanding. The event highlighted Gateshead’s ongoing commitment to creating spaces where people from different backgrounds can meet, connect, and engage through dialogue.
Organised by the Dialogue Society North East Branch, with the support of Gateshead Council (GCB) and dedicated local volunteers, the gathering created a warm and inclusive environment that encouraged meaningful interaction and shared reflection.
Sharing Food, Building Understanding
The evening centred around the shared Iftar meal, where guests enjoyed a variety of traditional dishes from different cultures. Gathering around the table provided a natural setting for conversation, allowing participants to learn from one another and experience the spirit of togetherness that lies at the heart of Ramadan.
Alongside the meal, the programme featured guest speakers, live music, art displays, quizzes, and interactive table games, creating an engaging and accessible atmosphere. These activities supported open participation and helped strengthen connections across communities in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
A Historic Space for Contemporary Dialogue
Hosting the event at St Mary’s Heritage Centre added depth to the evening, symbolically connecting Gateshead’s heritage with its diverse and evolving community. Attendees included families, young people, community representatives, and faith leaders, all contributing to a respectful and vibrant gathering shaped by shared values.
Continuing the Journey
The success of the 3rd Annual Gateshead Dialogue Iftar reflects the importance of strong partnerships and community-led initiatives. Building on this momentum, the Dialogue Society North East Branch looks ahead to the 4th Gateshead Annual Iftar and Diversity Dinner in 2024, continuing its work to promote peace, unity, and dialogue across the region.
