The 4th North East Community Dialogue Iftar & Diversity Dinner was held at Newcastle Cathedral as a region-wide gathering dedicated to promoting social cohesion, dialogue, and mutual understanding across the North East of England. The event brought together over 200 participants from more than 60 organisations, representing faith groups, public institutions, local authorities, community organisations, and civil society.

The event, themed “Voices in Unity,” aims to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds to foster inter-social and intercultural understanding. This occasion celebrated various cultural and religious festivals occurring in March and April—including Nowruz, Holi, Passover, Easter, Vaisakhi, Mahavir Jayanti, Ridvan, and Theravada observances—and provided a platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration among communities.

Through a combination of keynote addresses, artistic performances, shared meals, and facilitated interactions, the evening highlighted the importance of dialogue in strengthening relationships between diverse communities and institutions. Cultural elements such as music, dance, and shared cuisine reflected the region’s diversity and reinforced the event’s core message of unity through shared experience.

The programme featured contributions from respected civic, faith, and community leaders, including Dr Kamil Kemancı (Dialogue Society), The Very Reverend Lee Batson (Dean of Newcastle Cathedral), HM Lucy Winskell (Lord Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear), Susan Dungworth (Northumbria Police & Crime Commissioner), and Taha Özleblebici (NEDES). Their reflections emphasised shared values, inclusive leadership, and the collective responsibility to foster trust and understanding across the North East.

Senior representatives from local government, faith communities, and public services—including Bishop Dr Helen and Bishop Stephen Wright, MP Chi Onwurah, Deputy Mayor of Sunderland Cllr Ehthesham Haque, Cllr Karen Kilgour, Cllr Alex Hay, and Northumbria Police representatives—also attended, underlining the significance of cross-sector engagement in addressing social challenges and strengthening community resilience.

The organisers extend sincere thanks to all speakers, partners, volunteers, performers, and participants whose contributions ensured the success of this event. The 4th North East Community Dialogue Iftar & Diversity Dinner reaffirmed the value of inclusive spaces in advancing regional social cohesion, and demonstrated the positive impact of sustained dialogue in bringing communities closer together.
