On 20 March 2024, the Dialogue Society Liverpool Branch hosted a highly successful Community Dialogue Iftar, bringing together a diverse group of guests from across Merseyside to celebrate the values of peace, unity, and social cohesion. The event welcomed participants from faith and non-faith backgrounds, community and voluntary organisations, public services, academia, and local leadership, creating a meaningful platform for dialogue and connection.
The evening was attended by distinguished guests including the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mark Blundell, High Sheriff Dr Ruth Hussey, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram, Chief Fire Officer Phil Carrigan (Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service), Inspector David Uren (Merseyside Police), as well as representatives from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities, councillors, academics, trustees, and community leaders. Their presence reflected the shared commitment across sectors to strengthening relationships and promoting inclusion.
The programme combined reflection and engagement through a communal Iftar meal, live music, a marbling art demonstration, and interactive activities, including a community quiz and raffle. These elements helped create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encouraged meaningful conversations and new connections among participants.
The Community Dialogue Iftar 2024 served as a powerful example of how shared cultural and religious occasions can bring people together. The event:
Fostered dialogue between diverse faith and non-faith communities
Strengthened relationships across public, voluntary, and community sectors
Promoted mutual understanding, respect, and trust
Demonstrated the positive role of inclusive community engagement in building cohesive and resilient communities
This event stands as a successful model of connecting people and communities through dialogue, shared experiences, and collaboration, reinforcing the Dialogue Society’s ongoing commitment to peace, unity, and social harmony.
