The 3rd Annual South Tyneside Dialogue Iftar & Diversity Dinner, organised by the Dialogue Society North East Branch, brought together over 100 guests from across the region, representing diverse faith and non-faith communities, local organisations, and public institutions. Held under the theme “Building Community Trust,” the event created a welcoming and vibrant space for dialogue, connection, and shared reflection during the holy month of Ramadan.

Delivered in partnership with South Tyneside Council and NEDES, the evening highlighted the strength of collaboration in fostering community cohesion. The programme featured a rich and engaging line-up including keynote speeches, interfaith dialogue, cultural performances, and interactive activities, all contributing to a lively and inclusive atmosphere.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Tugay Yalcin, Regional Director of the Dialogue Society, followed by opening remarks from Jay Pots, Mayor of South Tyneside. The keynote address was delivered by Edward McNaught, HM Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, offering thoughtful reflections on unity, trust, and community engagement. Additional contributions were made by Susan Dungworth, Police and Crime Commissioner, reinforcing the importance of partnership and shared responsibility.

The evening also featured a live sand art performance, interfaith prayers led by representatives from different traditions, and engaging activities such as quizzes and interactive games. Guests experienced the spiritual significance of Ramadan through the recitation of the adhan (call to prayer), followed by a shared iftar meal that fostered a warm atmosphere of friendship and meaningful conversation.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Dialogue Champion Award, recognising outstanding contributions to community cohesion. The awards were presented by Tugay Yalcin, Regional Director, alongside Edward McNaught, to Tracy Dixon, Leader of South Tyneside Council, and Talha Ozleblebici, Chair of NEDES, in recognition of their continued support and commitment to strengthening communities.
