Last Thursday, Dialogue Society hosted its traditional Ramadan Iftar Dinner in Bexley under the theme “Building Community Trust”, welcoming distinguished faith leaders, civic representatives, academics, and valued members of the wider community to an evening rooted in dialogue, shared values, and collective responsibility.

Held at The Boathouse, Danson Park, the programme opened with arrivals and warm exchanges, followed by a formal welcome introducing the evening’s central theme: strengthening trust as the foundation of cohesive and resilient communities . A moving Qur’an recitation set a reflective tone, after which guests were introduced to the Dialogue Society’s impact and ongoing community initiatives .

The keynote session brought together voices from across faith and civic life, including a representative of Dialogue Society, the Chair of the Bexley Interfaith Forum, and a representative of the Orthodox Jewish community . Each speaker reflected on the importance of interfaith collaboration, mutual respect, and active citizenship in fostering long-term community trust.

Art and spirituality intertwined beautifully during the sand art performance, visually narrating themes of unity and hope . As the Adhan marked the time to break the fast, guests shared a three-course iftar meal, creating space for personal connection and meaningful table discussions . A live piano performance further enriched the atmosphere, reinforcing the evening’s spirit of harmony .

The programme continued with an address from the Metropolitan Police Service, highlighting partnership working and community engagement , followed by a presentation outlining Dialogue Society’s current and upcoming projects . Interactive networking and a community quiz encouraged participation and strengthened relationships across sectors . The evening concluded with closing remarks and a group photograph, symbolising the collective commitment to trust and collaboration .

Throughout the evening, the message was clear: trust is built not through words alone, but through sustained engagement, respectful dialogue, and shared experiences. In bringing together diverse voices under one roof during Ramadan, Dialogue Society once again demonstrated the transformative power of hospitality and conversation.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our speakers, partners, volunteers, and all attendees who contributed to making this gathering a meaningful and memorable celebration of unity in Bexley.
