The Dialogue Society North East Branch is proud to announce that it was honoured at the ABC Inclusion Awards 2024, held on 17 October 2024, in recognition of its contribution to community cohesion, interfaith dialogue and inclusion across the North East.

Organised by ABConnexions (ABC), the ABC Inclusion Awards celebrate organisations and individuals who demonstrate leadership in promoting diversity, equality and collaboration within their communities.

Reason for the Award

The Dialogue Society was recognised for its sustained, volunteer-led work in bringing together people from diverse cultural, faith and social backgrounds, creating inclusive spaces for dialogue, understanding and mutual respect.

Since the establishment of its North East Branch in 2020, the organisation has delivered over 50 large-scale community events, engaging more than 5,000 people across the region. Its annual Community Christmas Events and Iftar and Diversity Dinners, held in Hartlepool, South Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead and Northumberland, have become key platforms for community connection.

The award also acknowledges the organisation’s innovative use of culture and education to promote dialogue. Initiatives such as Cultural Awareness Days for schools and public institutions, alongside Interfaith Week activities including the distribution of 2,500 portions of Ashura in 2024, have contributed significantly to greater understanding and social cohesion.

Volunteer-Led Impact

All activities of The Dialogue Society are delivered by volunteers, with over 150 volunteers supporting its work. Despite having no paid staff, the organisation has collaborated with around 200 local and national partners, including schools, faith organisations, charities and local authorities.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts of volunteers, partners and supporters and reinforces The Dialogue Society’s ongoing commitment to fostering dialogue, inclusion and stronger communities across the North East.
