Gateshead Central Library

The Neighbours Are Connecting Project Gateshead brought local residents together for a vibrant day of creativity at Central Gateshead Library on 26 January 2026. Featuring three engaging, hands-on workshops, participants explored the beauty of traditional Ebru (water marbling) with artist Tugay Yalcin, transforming paint into flowing patterns on water inspired by nature. Alongside this, artist Melike Nurgul Balci led lively “Trash to Treasure” recycled art sessions, where families and individuals turned everyday materials into imaginative toys, ornaments, and artworks.

The day also included a “Create a Postcard to Nature” workshop, inviting participants of all ages to express their connection to the natural world through art and personal messages. This inclusive session welcomed people of all backgrounds and languages, encouraging creativity without barriers. The art workshop delivered by Artist Pui Lee.

With a shared theme of “Love Nature,” the workshops encouraged artistic expression, sustainability, and community connection. No previous art experience was needed, and all materials were provided, making the sessions fully accessible and family friendly. Held from 10.15 am to 1.00 pm at Caedmon Hall, Central Gateshead Library, the event created a warm and inclusive space for learning, collaboration, and environmental awareness—leaving participants with unique creations and meaningful shared experiences.
