The Dialogue Society North East Branch recently delivered a workshop on Media Culture and Extremism, hosted by Gateshead XP College.
The session was led by Kerim Balci, an experienced journalist, academic, and human rights activist, who shared his professional insights into the role of media in shaping public discourse. Students were introduced to key concepts in media literacy, with a particular focus on understanding media language, recognising bias, and critically evaluating narratives related to extremism.
The workshop offered students the opportunity to engage directly with an expert in the field, encouraging informed discussion and critical reflection. Through interactive dialogue, participants developed a deeper understanding of how media content can influence opinions and attitudes.
The Dialogue Society would like to thank Gateshead XP College for hosting the event and for its continued commitment to promoting critical thinking, media awareness, and informed civic engagement among students.
