On 8th March 2025, Dialogue Society celebrated a meaningful milestone by hosting its first Ramadan Iftar in Cambridge. This memorable evening welcomed a diverse gathering, including academics from the University of Cambridge and the University of Hertfordshire, as well as Councillor Ingrid Flaubert. Guests shared an Iftar meal in an atmosphere of unity and dialogue, fostering understanding across cultural and religious lines.
In addition to the Iftar, the evening also included a celebration of International Women’s Day. Women attendees were warmly welcomed with roses as a symbol of appreciation and respect, aligning with Dialogue Society’s commitment to inclusivity and the recognition of women’s contributions to community life.
The evening was further enriched by a live performance on the traditional musical instrument kanun by a young volunteer. Remarkably, the performer had learned to play the kanun during the COVID-19 pandemic through online education alone. This moving performance highlighted the resilience of young people and the power of cultural expression to bring communities together.
Together, these elements encapsulated Dialogue Society’s mission to build bridges through meaningful engagement, shared experiences, and cultural celebration.
