On 7 December 2023 at 18:00, the Dialogue Society North East Branch proudly organised the first Christmas Event in South Tyneside at Harton Welfare Club / South Shields FC Foundation.

Held under the theme “Peace and Unity,” the event brought together a diverse range of individuals and communities to rejoice in the Christmas season while celebrating shared values of harmony, understanding, and togetherness. Designed as a social and cultural gathering, the evening aimed to promote inter-social and intercultural understanding among communities from different backgrounds.

The programme revolved around a shared meal table and included delicious festive food, inspiring presentations on the theme, distinguished guest speakers, live music, art displays, a raffle, and interactive activities such as a Kahoot game. Engaging workshops and games further enriched the evening, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.

The organisers were honoured to welcome esteemed guests, including Cllr Paul Dean and Cllr Stephan Dean from South Tyneside Council, Mehrban Sadiq from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Sr Mary Scholastica, an award-winning community leader, and Matthew Hunt, Director of Sunderland Port. Their presence highlighted the importance of unity, dialogue, and collaboration in building a more peaceful society.

The Dialogue Society extends sincere thanks to all the dedicated volunteers whose enthusiasm and commitment played a vital role in the success of the event. This inaugural Christmas celebration marked an important step in strengthening community bonds in South Tyneside and spreading the spirit of peace and unity during the festive season and beyond.
