The 12th Gateshead Community Corner, held at Birtley Community Centre, marked a truly special and memorable occasion as the final event of the “Gateshead Neighbours Are Connecting Project.” This vibrant gathering brought together over 150 residents and community members from across Gateshead and neighbouring areas for an afternoon filled with joy, culture, and meaningful connection.

Celebrating both Eid and Naw-Ruz, the event beautifully showcased the richness and diversity of the local community. Families, friends, and neighbours came together to enjoy a lively atmosphere full of cultural celebrations, shared experiences, and community spirit. The event was filled with laughter, conversation, and moments of togetherness, highlighting the power of inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued.

Organised by the North East Branch in partnership with NEDES, the event was a fitting and uplifting finale to a project that has consistently brought people together. The strong turnout and enthusiastic participation reflected the growing success of the Community Corner initiative and its importance within the local community.

Impact and Legacy in Gateshead

As the concluding event of the Gateshead Neighbours Are Connecting Project, this gathering represents the lasting impact of sustained community engagement across the borough. Supported by the Community Foundation, Gateshead Council, and NEDES, the project has played a key role in strengthening relationships between diverse groups, reducing social isolation, and fostering a strong sense of belonging.

This final celebration not only honoured cultural traditions such as Eid and Naw-Ruz but also demonstrated how shared experiences can bring communities closer together. By welcoming participants from both Gateshead and surrounding neighbourhoods, the event expanded networks, encouraged dialogue, and reinforced community cohesion on a wider scale.

The success of this event—and the series as a whole—leaves a meaningful legacy. It highlights how collaborative, community-led initiatives can create inclusive environments, empower residents, and support the vision of a more connected, resilient, and harmonious Gateshead.
