Bensgam Grove Community Centre

The second Gateshead Community Corner (C²) gathering brought neighbours together once again for a warm and meaningful celebration of community, culture, and shared traditions.

Hosted by Dialogue Society’s North East Branch, in partnership with NEDES and Bensham Grove Community Centre, this November gathering invited people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in a hands-on Noah’s Pudding (Ashura) cooking workshop. Participants cooked, tasted, and shared this symbolic dessert together — a dish traditionally associated with unity, generosity, and togetherness.

The morning was filled with conversation and collaboration as attendees worked side by side in the kitchen, learning from one another and exchanging stories. As the festive season approached, the gathering offered a space to reflect on multiculturalism, shared values, and the importance of coming together as neighbours.

Guided by local volunteers and shaped by those who took part, this Community Corner continued to grow as a community-designed space, where food becomes a way to connect and culture is shared through experience.

With gratitude to all the volunteers and participants who made the day possible, the second Community Corner strengthened the foundations of this monthly gathering — rooted in sharing, friendship, and belonging.
