Bensham Grove Community

The third Gateshead Community Corner (C²) transformed Bensham Grove Community Centre into a lively space of culture, collaboration, and shared creativity through a MasterChef-style cooking challenge.

Organised by Dialogue Society’s North East Branch, in partnership with NEDES and Bensham Grove Community Centre, the event brought participants together in mixed teams to prepare surprise dishes representing different cultures. Cooking became a shared language — opening conversations about history, heritage, and lived experience while building new friendships around the table.

The kitchen was filled with global flavours, including Qabuli Palaw and Burani Banjan (Afghanistan), Lagmon (Uyghur), Sultan’s Delight (Turkey), Tajik Pilaw (Tajikistan), and Curry Beans and Rice (South Africa & India). Each dish told a story, turning food into a powerful tool for dialogue and understanding.

With laughter, teamwork, and a friendly competitive spirit — complete with prizes — the gathering reflected Dialogue Society’s role as a cultural bridge builder, creating spaces where diversity is celebrated and connections grow naturally.
