Tyneview Primary School

The second Cultural Awareness Day (CAD) continued the journey of this impactful project, bringing cultural learning directly into the classroom at Tyneview Primary School, Newcastle. Organised by Dialogue Society volunteers, the event offered students an interactive and inspiring introduction to global cultures, creativity, and social responsibility.

Through hands-on workshops in macramé, calligraphy, and henna, alongside traditional folk music, pupils explored cultural expression in a joyful and meaningful way. These activities encouraged curiosity, creativity, and respect for different traditions, helping students connect with cultures beyond their own lived experience.

Beyond celebration, the day focused on building empathy and social awareness. In partnership with Time To Help, students took part in immersive activities that highlighted global challenges. Pupils raced with water jerry cans and used VR technology to explore water-scarce regions in Africa, gaining a deeper understanding of inequality, access to resources, and the realities faced by many communities around the world.

This Cultural Awareness Day demonstrated how experiential learning can inspire compassion, global citizenship, and understanding—empowering young learners to see the world with empathy and purpose.
