Dialogue Society Hull Branch recently delivered its innovative Life of a Chickpea project at Malet Lambert School, bringing together 100 students for an engaging and thought-provoking educational experience.
The seminar-based programme uses the journey of a humble chickpea as a creative metaphor to explore key themes such as equality, diversity, inclusion, and fundamental British values—including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect for different faiths and beliefs. Through this imaginative approach, students were encouraged to reflect on their roles within a diverse society and the kind of community they wish to help build.
The event featured guest speakers from diverse backgrounds who shared their perspectives and experiences, enriching the learning environment and inspiring meaningful dialogue. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students actively participated, asked insightful questions, and engaged in open discussions.
The day was marked by enthusiasm, curiosity, and a strong spirit of inclusion. The positive response from students highlighted the project’s impact in fostering confidence, critical thinking, and mutual understanding.
Dialogue Society Hull Branch continues to support schools and local communities through initiatives like the Life of a Chickpea, promoting social cohesion, resilience, and constructive dialogue among young people.
