Students at Waterhead Academy – Summit Saturday School took part in engaging Life of a Chickpea sessions delivered by Dialogue Society. Primary and secondary students explored themes of diversity, equality, and inclusion, reflecting on the importance of celebrating differences, showing mutual respect, and learning from one another.

The sessions provided a safe and inspiring space for students to discuss identity, belonging, and community. Through interactive conversation and storytelling, young people were encouraged to see diversity as a strength and to consider their role in building inclusive and respectful environments both in school and beyond.

About the Life of a Chickpea Project

Life of a Chickpea is a unique educational initiative developed by the Dialogue Society, using the cultural and religious narrative of Noah’s Pudding as a powerful metaphor for unity in diversity. Noah’s Pudding, a traditional dessert with deep roots in the Abrahamic faiths, is made from many different ingredients—each retaining its own character while contributing to a meaningful and harmonious whole.

Through this metaphor, the project invites students to reflect on British values, community cohesion, and personal development. By exploring how individuality and cooperation coexist within the story of the pudding, participants gain a deeper understanding of inclusion, shared responsibility, and respectful coexistence in a diverse society.

The Life of a Chickpea project continues to support schools and community groups by promoting dialogue, empathy, and understanding—helping young people develop the skills and awareness needed to thrive in an increasingly diverse world.
