Dialogue Society North East Branch is pleased to announce the launch of the Newcastle Scriptural Reasoning Group, established in collaboration with the Newcastle Cathedral Bible Study Group. The inaugural gathering marked an important step in creating a regular space for dialogue, reflection, and relationship-building across faith traditions in the city.
The first session brought participants together around the theme of “Neighbouring”, exploring shared responsibilities, ethical values, and the ways different faith traditions understand what it means to live well alongside one another. Through respectful discussion and attentive listening, the group engaged deeply with both shared values and differences, fostering a spirit of mutual learning and connection.
Alongside the launch of the group, our team also attended the Sunday Service at Newcastle St Nicholas’ Cathedral, where we had the opportunity to share Noah’s Pudding and present our interfaith message with the wider congregation. This moment of engagement extended the conversation beyond the study group, allowing us to reach a broader audience and highlight the importance of neighbourliness, compassion, and community cohesion.
To conclude the Scriptural Reasoning gathering, volunteers shared Noah’s Pudding—a traditional dessert prepared with more than twenty ingredients. The pudding served as a powerful symbol of diversity and unity, reflecting how different elements can come together to form a strong and nourishing community.
We extend our sincere thanks to Helen Wright and The Rev’d Canon Peter Dobson of Newcastle Cathedral for their generous hospitality and continued support. Their encouragement has been vital in creating welcoming spaces for dialogue and understanding.
The Newcastle Scriptural Reasoning Group will continue to meet regularly, offering a thoughtful and inclusive environment where people can engage with sacred texts, build relationships, and strengthen interfaith connections across the North East.
