Summary
The Dialogue Society was proud to host Rt Hon Michael Howard MP, Leader of the Conservative Party 2003-2005, as its guest of honour at a roundtable event entitled ‘Education and Integration’ at its offices. Michael Howard sparked off a provoking and stimulating debate on the issues surrounding education, integration and citizenship. He was joined by leading academics, politicians, professionals and practitioners who contributed to the discussions and raised many issues that the Dialogue Society is keen to address in future programmes and projects.
The discussions were all the more meaningful as the event coincided with 140th Anniversary of the Fifteenth Amendment (30th March, 1870) to the United States Constitution which, ‘prohibits each government in the United States from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen’s race or colour.’ Granting this right was the first step to enabling ethnic minority communities to be fully integrated, active citizens within the US.
