The Leeds Branch hosted its Annual Community Iftar Dinner at Queen’s Hall, Moortown, convening 125 guests from across West Yorkshire under the unifying theme “Building Community Trust.” The evening brought together a diverse audience including faith leaders, academics, councillors, educators, and local residents, creating a thoughtful and welcoming environment for dialogue and shared experience.

The event was honoured by the presence of Sharon Watson and Christopher John Brown, whose contributions underscored the importance of civic engagement, cultural understanding, and collective responsibility in strengthening communities. Their reflections set the tone for an evening centred on listening, openness, and meaningful exchange.

The programme combined formal and interactive elements, including speeches, live music, and a variety of participatory activities such as Kahoot, Slido discussions, a raffle, and the “pass the gift” game. These components fostered a dynamic atmosphere where guests could engage with one another beyond formal introductions, encouraging genuine connection and mutual appreciation. The shared iftar meal provided a focal point for conversation, reinforcing the values of hospitality and togetherness.

Impact

This Iftar Dinner made a significant contribution to community cohesion across Leeds and the wider West Yorkshire region. By intentionally creating space for dialogue among individuals from varied backgrounds, the event facilitated new relationships and strengthened existing networks between civic leaders, community organisations, and residents. It promoted a culture of trust, active listening, and inclusivity—key elements in addressing social divisions and building resilient communities.

Moreover, the event demonstrated the effectiveness of culturally grounded initiatives in fostering engagement and participation. The combination of structured dialogue and informal interaction enabled attendees to connect on a personal level, helping to break down barriers and challenge misconceptions. As a result, the evening not only celebrated the spirit of Ramadan but also laid the groundwork for continued collaboration, reinforcing a shared commitment to unity, diversity, and long-term community development.
