The Dialogue Society Cardiff Branch brought together community leaders, local organisations and representatives from across South Wales for a special Ramadan Iftar dinner, creating an evening centred on hospitality, conversation and connection. The gathering provided a valuable opportunity for people from different backgrounds to come together, share a meal and build stronger relationships within the local community.

As guests gathered to break the fast, the evening offered a welcoming space to learn about the significance of Ramadan and the tradition of Iftar. Sharing food created a natural setting for guests to exchange experiences, discover common ground and develop a deeper appreciation of different cultural and religious traditions.

The event was honoured by the participation of Senedd Member Jenny Rathbone, Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Morfudd Meredith, Social Justice Minister of Wales Jane Hutt, and High Sheriff of South Glamorgan Janey Howell. Their presence reflected the importance of bringing together civic representatives, community organisations and local residents to encourage meaningful engagement and collaboration.

Beyond the shared meal, the Iftar highlighted the role that dialogue and personal connections can play in strengthening communities. Conversations throughout the evening helped foster understanding, friendship and mutual respect, while providing an opportunity for guests to consider the importance of working together across different communities.

Through events such as this, the Dialogue Society Cardiff Branch continues to create opportunities for people to meet, connect and engage with one another. The Ramadan Iftar demonstrated how a shared table can provide a starting point for meaningful dialogue and lasting relationships, contributing to a more connected and cohesive community in Cardiff and beyond.
