Hate Crime and Integration Seminar

Dialogue Society North and Humberside Police organised a seminar titled 'Hate Crime and Integration', conducted by Sharon Houfe and Andy Pagram at Leslie Downs Theatre, Ferens Building, Hull University on 27 November 2008. Participants received a brief presentation from the speakers about what hate Crimes and hate Incidents are, and how hate crimes can be reported to the Police. Participants split up into small discussion groups. The groups completed a number of exercises related to hate crimes and issues related to integration during the session.

Biography of Sharon Houfe

Sharon is a Community Cohesion Police Officer working in the Hull area. In her role she works with all communities alongside of partner agencies with the aim of empowering communities and making them safer places to live. She has been a Police Officer for 16 years, the majority of this time she has worked on the “front line”, policing different areas of the city.

Biography of Andy Pagram

Andy is the Hate Crime Coordinator for Humberside Police, a role which covers the whole of the Force area. In his role Andy works with all vulnerable communities, receiving and recording reports of any Hate Incidents and Crimes that members of these communities experience and ensuring they are directed to the most appropriate departments within the Police and other Partner Agencies to provide the necessary investigation and support to the victims of these unacceptable events
