Politicians’ Intercultural Trip to Turkey

Abstract

We would like to thank for taking part in the Turkey trip organised by the Dialogue Society between 24th February and 1st Mar ch 2009. The trip will include visits to Istanbul and Ankara. Apart from touring historical and touristic sites, the trip includes visits to, and meetings with, the head of several educational establishments, media outlets, a relief charity, a business confederation, an inter faith organisation, and the HQ of the ruling AK Party. Meetings will also be arranged with journalists, politicians, academics and public figures. This leaflet provides a daily itinerary and brief description of the sites to be visited. Britain is the foremost supporter of Turkey's ascension to the European Union. A better understanding of 'Turkish Islam', politics and civil society dynamics is crucial to foreseeing future contributions of Turkey in Eur ope.

To project a positive image and understanding of Britain in Turkey.
To develop links with key Turkish educational, media and voluntary sector organisations.
To develop a better understanding of 'Turkish Muslimness' and civil society.
