On March 26-27, 2010, Dialogue Society North attended the University of Notre Dame’s annual Student Peace Conference at the Hesburgh Center for International Studies in the United States. The conference was officially sponsored by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and was planned and directed entirely by the peace studies students of the university. Every year the conference unites participants from the United States and abroad with a spirit of commitment to a rigorous multi-disciplinary academic program focused on building international peace. This year’s theme, “Invest in Peace: Uncovering the Practicality of Peacebuilding” was focused on giving attendees a tangible grasp on peacebuilding in the world. It is aimed to discover how to make changes on the global scale by highlighting the effect of implementable policies for peace and the role that scholar-practitioners can play in promoting peace. John Prendergast, founder of the Enough Project (a project focusing on ending genocide and crimes against humanity) served as the opening keynote speaker of the conference. The speaker’s keynote address was focused on his experience with resolving conflict in Africa, especially the Enough Project’s campaign to stop the deadly conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
