World Religions Course: Understanding Sikhism by Harban Singh Sagoo

Fri, 17 Jul 2009 12:00 in Training

On Wednesday June 17 Dialogue Society North volunteers paid a visit to Mr Harban Singh Sagoo at the GNNSJ Gurdwara in Leeds, to meet him in person and learn more about Sikhism, its beliefs and practices. We were warmly welcomed by the congregation and were offered food at the ‘Langar’, a part of the Gurdwara that offers free food to everyone throughout the day.

We had an intimate discussion about Sikhism, asking questions about different aspects of the faith. Afterwards, we had a chance to see around the prayer hall, see the Guru Granth Sahib and listen to some samples of the spiritual music that accompanies the Sikh worship. We also saw the beautiful decorations made by the children who come to the various classes (ranging from Punjabi language classes, sewing, and music classes) taught at the facility. Overall, it was a very informative and fruitful visit. We would like to thank our hosts at the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha Sikh Temple for their warm welcome and hospitality.
