Roundtable with Alastair Cunningham on Outlook for the UK Economy

Alastair Cunningham discussed some important issues in the UK Economy before a packed audience at a roundtable discussion event held by our Leicester branch. He tried to find answers to important questions in economy such as,

  • Trading conditions: Have sales increased over the past year?
  • The economic data tracked in Head Office show an economy growing at around its normal rate - is that your experience?
  • What do we expect to happen over the coming year?
  • Credit availability: Is the availability of finance a major concern for the business? Are there other more pressing concerns?
  • Confidence: How would you describe the state of your confidence in business prospects?

About Alastair Cunningham

Alastair joined the Bank of England in 1994 - taking over as Agent for the East Midlands Agency in February 2010 after spending 15 years as an economist and senior manager at the Bank's Head Office in London. His current role - acting as the eyes and ears of the Monetary Policy Committee is the most rewarding yet, giving an unrivalled opportunity to test economic theories against the real world. He has an MSc in Economics from the University of Glasgow and a degree in History and Economics from Oxford University.
