As we bid farewell to Ramadan, we reflect with gratitude on a month filled with connection, reflection, and shared experiences. April has been a powerful reminder of how much can grow from simply coming together—over meals, in conversation, and through learning.
Our Dialogue Iftar gatherings reached dozens of communities across the UK, creating moments of warmth, exchange, and mutual respect. IftarMe also continued to flourish, with many families welcoming guests into their homes to share the fast-breaking meal in the spirit of friendship and openness.
We are also thrilled to see our Life of a Chickpea project featured on BBC South Today, highlighting the impact of our work in schools on community cohesion and understanding.
As we look ahead, we’re excited to carry the momentum of Ramadan into the rest of the year. Projects like OpenDoors will keep the conversation going by bringing people together—long-time residents and newcomers alike—for shared meals and dialogue all year round.
Thank you for walking with us through another meaningful month.
Warm wishes,
The Dialogue Society Team
Iftar Gatherings

hroughout April, the Dialogue Society embraced the theme “Voices in Unity” to bring people together in the spirit of Ramadan and dialogue. Our Iftar gatherings across different communities served as a reminder of the power of shared meals, open conversations, and meaningful connections. As people from all backgrounds came together to break bread, we witnessed firsthand how unity in diversity strengthens understanding and fosters lasting relationships. We are grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating this special time with warmth, reflection, and dialogue.

The Life of a Chickpea
BBC South Today featured ‘Life of a Chickpea’!
We are delighted to share that BBC South Today has featured our Life of a Chickpea project, beautifully capturing its impact through interviews with children and teachers. The segment highlights how the project fosters understanding of multiculturalism, British values, and community cohesion in an engaging and interactive way. Seeing young minds reflect on these themes with enthusiasm and curiosity is a testament to the power of storytelling and education. We are incredibly proud of this recognition and grateful to all our storytellers and partners who bring this project to life!
Iftar Me
This year, the IftarMe project has been a huge success, bringing people together through the simple yet powerful act of sharing a meal. Our Muslim volunteers opened their homes and hearts, inviting friends from all backgrounds to experience the beauty of fast-breaking and Ramadan traditions.

These gatherings sparked meaningful conversations, strengthened friendships, and fostered mutual understanding, reflecting the true essence of dialogue. We are proud of everyone who participated and look forward to growing this initiative even further!
But don’t be sad that Ramadan is over! If you loved IftarMe, you’ll be excited about our newborn project, OpenDoors—a year-round initiative that takes the spirit of IftarMe even further! OpenDoors invites you to connect long- term and new residents, fostering cross-cultural exchanges through shared meals, stories, and meaningful conversations. No need to wait until next Ramadan—let’s keep the dialogue going all year round!

Iftar Speech Highlights
During our Iftar events, we had the pleasure of hearing Kerim Balci, Dean of Education at Respect Graduate School, share his wisdom through captivating stories. As he beautifully put it, “People usually remember the stories, not the speeches or the speakers.”

One story that stood out comes from Greek mythology—a tale of humans who were once two-faced, four-armed, and four-legged, with another person attached to their back. Their unity made them so powerful that the gods, fearing their strength, split them in half. Ever since, humankind has been searching for their missing half, seeking connection and wholeness. This story resonates deeply with the essence of Ramadan and our Iftar gatherings—reminding us that we find strength, understanding, and unity through coming together. As we break bread and share stories, we bridge differences and rediscover the bonds that make us whole.
