On Thursday, the 22nd of September 2022, The Lord Sheikh, a long-term member of our Board of Advisers, passed away at the age of 81.
A member of the House of Lords since 2006, Lord Sheikh was a British politician, community leader, philanthropist, and businessman. Working tirelessly to improve community relations, encouraging young people to engage in democratic systems of politics and being an ardent supporter of interfaith dialogue efforts, Lord Sheikh has touched many lives. Through his work as the Patron of several community organisations, he was actively involved in strengthening relations between various ethnic and religious community groups, giving generously from his time and knowledge in recognition of the positive contributions of the Muslim community to the United Kingdom.
Serving as an adviser of the Dialogue Society for several years, Lord Sheikh was a sincere friend. Illustrating through his unwavering support of our dialogue projects and genuine belief that dialogue is central to achieving empathy and understanding in building more cohesive societies, that when we work together, and learn from one another, we can make a positive contribution to our community.
We are deeply grateful for all the support, advice, and direction he provided to our organisation over the past years, his contributions will serve as a legacy to community building.
We extend our sincerest condolences to his beloved family and friends, at what is a very difficult time.
