Cllr Denise Cobb

The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Brighton and Hove

Denise Cobb was born in Brighton. Having lived in both London and the US she now resides in the city keeping tabs on her two sons, four grandsons and grand-daughter. A self-employed massage, sport massage, beauty therapist and part time teacher of swimming and aquatic exercise, Denise is also a qualified Badminton and Gym Instructor. She has worked in local hospitals as a Phlebotomist and Theatre Sterile Services Supervisor. First elected in 1999 to represent the Westbourne Ward she was successively re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011. Denise has served on many committees and was Deputy Leader of the Council May 2008 – May 2009 and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group May 2011 – May 2013. Denise has worked with young people and the long term unemployed, training and supporting them to find voluntary and paid work. Coaching in sports and leisure activities and working with young adults with profound multiple learning difficulties and severe physical disabilities provided eye-opening insight. In a voluntary capacity Denise has been an Instructor for the American Red Cross, helped raise funds for children’s sport, been a lifeguard on youth group trips and taught fun exercise sessions for all ages. In the few moments between work, family and council obligations Denise enjoys dance, swimming, cooking and travel.
