On Thursday the 21st of November 2019, Dr Steve Wright, a long-term member of our Board of Advisers, lost his fight with cancer and passed away at the age of 67.
Dr Wright was a Reader in the Politics and International Relations Group at Leeds Beckett University.
He was an expert on torture technologies and surveillance employed by governments across the world. For several years, Dr Wright was Director of the Omega Foundation, a research organisation, bringing attention to the misuse of military and security. He was a brilliant researcher and campaigner and a true advocate of peace and dialogue. Certainly, Dr Wright’s work has had a meaningful impact on international security.
Dr Wright’s passing is a tragic loss to the arms control community, the academic world, as well as for his students and family. He will be incredibly missed.
Dr Wright was a true friend of Dialogue Society and served as an adviser for many years. He was always supportive of our dialogue projects and genuinely believed that dialogue is central to combatting domestic and global conflicts. We are deeply grateful for all the support he displayed and his contribution to our organisation.
We send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
May he rest in peace.
