Abstract

The basis of annual Dialogue Society grass roots activities, ‘Noah's Pudding’ celebrates the common heritage of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

In the Muslim prophetic tradition, the day Moses (peace be upon him) and his community were saved from the Pharaoh's army, and the day Noah's (peace be upon him) ark was saved from the flood is marked with fasting, and in modern times with the sharing of a special dessert known as ‘Noah's Pudding’.

Every year, thousands of bowls of Noah's pudding are shared by the families of Dialogue Society volunteers with their neighbours and with members of various faith-based organizations in the South of the UK.

Biography of Josie Iles

Josie was born and grew up in West London, living there until her marriage to Steve in 1983. After a brief spell in Dartford they decided to move to Medway in 1986. They settled in Strood along with their five cats and Josie continued her career in Payroll Operations, commuting daily to London until 2009. At this stage of her life Josie wanted a change and decided to focus on local community issues, something she had wanted to do for some time. She became a councillor for Strood South in 2011 and has enjoyed the role and the opportunities this has given her to get involved and help people within her ward and the wider areas of the Medway Towns, something her career had previously restricted.

In 2012 Josie became Deputy Mayor of Medway, which further enhanced her knowledge of the Medway Towns and the people, clubs and associations within it. Josie greatly enjoyed her role, having the privileged position of deputising for the Mayor at various civic events and supporting him in promoting Medway. This has served as a very good apprenticeship for her to undertake the role of Mayor of Medway for the 2013/2014 municipal year. Josie is keen to build upon this past year and is delighted to serve Medway in this extremely honoured position.
