Hamwic Speakers is a Southampton-based public speaking club. Today many people are more comfortable communicating by email or telephone, rather than face-to-face. Speaking to large or small groups, or even one to one, can be a nerve racking or stressful experience. Hamwic Speakers helps people to overcome these challenges and transform their public speaking into an enjoyable and successful experience.
Hamwic Speakers is part of the global network of Toastmasters International, and forms an area with clubs in Hampshire and Dorset. Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through its a worldwide network of clubs.
This confidence-boosting workshop will give participants a hands-on introduction to the art of public speaking. Participants will take part in a series of speaking exercises, giving and receiving constructive feedback on presentations and on impromptu speaking. Hamwic Speakers session leaders will provide additional feedback and key tips on preparing and delivering an engaging presentation.
The Dialogue Society Success School is a five-week programme of weekly evening seminars intended to help inspire, encourage and equip young people to aspire to and work towards success.
Participants will hear the inspirational stories of a range of successful professionals in a friendly and interactive environment (4 sessions). The School also offers a workshop with Hamwic Speakers, in which participants will be able to develop confidence by practising public speaking skills.
Regular attendees will receive certificates.
The School is primarily intended for young people of 16-21 years of age in and around Southampton. We hope to welcome participants from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
