Jon Stratford

  1. Jon Stratford
    Chief Superintendent

Jon graduated from Leicester Polytechnic in 1986 where he was commissioned into the Royal Artillery. Leaving the Army in 1992 he joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary on the Accelerated Promotion Scheme.

Jon served in a variety of posts in South Bristol, Bath, Support Group (commanded a firearms van), Bristol CID and then Sector Inspector at Frome.

In 2000 Jon took charge of the force’s Operational Training Department on promotion. More “operational” than “training” here he gained significant firearms and public order experience. Jon is a qualified tactical commander in both disciplines and has just attended a Public Order Gold Commander’s Course.

In 2003 Jon moved back to rural Somerset East being promoted there to Superintendent. He left to set up and lead the force’s representative workforce project before, in 2007; he took charge of the Criminal Justice Department on promotion to Chief Superintendent.

Between 2008 and 2011 this role was combined with that of Deputy District Commander of Bristol.

Since July 2011 Jon has been the Chief Superintendent in Bristol.

Jon’s interests include surfing, cycling, Landrovers; basically anything that gets him outside with his three young sons. He is also the chair of governors of his local primary school.
