Time: 18:00
With: Jessica Huie, Entrepreneur and Publicist
Jessica Huie is founder of Britain's award-winning multi-racial greeting card and gift company, Colorblind Cards (www.colorblindcards.com,) and is credited with having made history as the first company to secure a presence for a black card range in the UK high street (2007.) Inspired by the high-street's lack of black or brown super-heroes and princesses (her daughter was aged 7), Colorblind Cards was born, and within six months were stocked in 100 branches of Clinton Cards, numerous independents, Moonpig.com and secured distribution in the US, Barbados, South Africa, Nigeria and even Bermuda. Color blind Cards will be available in one of Britain's leading supermarket chains imminently and debut in US chain Staples' online super store this year.
Jessica is also a successful publicist following seven years working for Max Clifford with clients such as Simon Cowell and Peter Jones. Having set up JH Public Relations www.jhpr.co.uk 5 years ago, her personal clients have included Kelly Rowland, the latest Dragon's Den recruit Hilary Devey, the Ministry of Justice and a host of well-known luxury brands and lifestyle experts.
33 year old Jessica was included on Glamour Magazine's 'Power List' last year and Red Magazine's '35 under 35 HOT LIST' the year before. She was named one of the UK's most 'inspiring entrepreneurs' by the Evening Standard. Jessica is mother to fourteen-year old daughter Monet, and 1 year old Jensen. Having become a mother aged 18 with just 4 GCSEs and little sense of purpose in life, she counts her greatest success as having defied the stereotype of a teenaged parent and having greatly exceeded expectations.
In an interactive interview with a member of the Dialogue Society staff with Jessica Huie will explore her journey to success, discussing the challenges that she faced, the inspiration, attitudes and actions that helped her overcome these and her advice to participants at the start of their journeys. A Q&A session will follow the interview, and participants, staff and speakers will have time to interact informally over refreshments.
The format of sessions with 'role model' speakers will be as follows:
The Dialogue Society Success School is a six-week programme of weekly evening seminars intended to help inspire, encourage and equip young people to aspire to and work towards success.
Participants will hear the inspirational stories of a range of successful professionals in a friendly and interactive environment (4 sessions). In addition, experts from performance coaching and self-help backgrounds will provide them with practical guidance on positive thinking and on setting and achieving manageable goals from (2 sessions). Dialogue Society staff will lead an additional practical session looking at key skills such as leadership and time management. The School will establish an ongoing network through which participants, staff and speakers can share ideas and opportunities. Click here for further information and poster.
The School is primarily intended for young people of 16-21 years of age, and the Dialogue Society will initially advertise in North London. We hope to welcome participants from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
